Recruitment Process
To apply, follow the Apply Now link in the job announcement. If you have not already done so, you will need to create an account before completing and submitting the electronic application. Applications must be received by the deadline posted in the announcement. Further selection exams may include an oral interview, written exercise or test, practical exam, or any combination thereof. Successful applicants are subject to a background investigation, excluding criminal history, before a conditional offer is extended. Upon satisfactory results of a criminal background check, applicants are subject to a pre-employment medical exam before a final offer is extended. Some positions may require a pre-employment drug screen.

How to Become a Water or Wastewater Specialist

Cuyamaca College offers a Water and Wastewater Technology Program that provides employment training, and advanced courses in water and wastewater technology.
Palomar College offers a Water and Wastewater Technologies Program for pre-employment training, in addition to advanced courses in water and wastewater technology that will prepare students for State certification.
California State University San Marcos offers a Water Resources Management Program developed for individuals already employed in the water or wastewater industry, who wish to advance their supervisory skills and knowledge.
Internship Opportunities
Vallecitos has partnered with Palomar College to provide internships to local students who have taken a water technology course to ensure that students are ready to enter the workforce. The San Diego County Water Authority has also partnered with Vallecitos Water District, other regional water agencies, and local education centers to develop a regional water and wastewater internship program. As the water and wastewater industry experiences an increased demand for qualified, certified staff, this internship program provides students in the San Diego region with career opportunities and on-the-job experience. The Water Authority also has an excellent San Diego Water Works website, which includes:
