The Mechanical/Electrical Department performs new installations, maintenance and repairs of equipment located in the District's water, wastewater and reclamation facilities. Such equipment includes pumping, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems, which provide water and wastewater services to the District’s customers.

The department’s staff ensures the operational readiness of the
District’s water and sewer facilities, which was put to the test during
the “Great Blackout of 2011”. This region-wide power outage was the
largest power failure in California’s history. Due to the foresight to have
back-up systems in place, such as generators at water and sewer pumping stations, not a single Vallecitos customer was out of water or sewer service during this time and the water was safe to drink.
