Revised Lead and Copper Rule

Lead Service Line Inventory Under Lead and Copper Rule Revisions

New regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, that took effect in 2021, require water utilities to identify, report and replace all known lead water service lines within their service areas. These Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) require that public water systems must complete an initial service line inventory by October 16, 2024, and notify persons of known or potential lead service lines. Vallecitos complied with this regulation by completing an initial assessment of water lines within our District boundaries. Using both federal and state approved methods, the initial analysis confirmed that to date, we do not have lead water service lines within our utility’s distribution system or customer's private water service lines. However, analysis will continue until all addresses are tested and all affected residents will be notified.

Water service lines include the utility’s water service line, which extends from the utility’s water main to the water meter, and the customer’s private water service line, which extends from the water meter to the customer’s home or business, as shown in the graphic below:

We are unable to check the interior of your home for lead pipes, but you can visit the EPA website to learn how you can check for lead pipes in your home.

Lead service lines have been found in other areas of the United States and utilities in those areas are making efforts to replace lead with newer pipeline material. Thankfully, lead was not a commonly used pipe material while San Diego was developing. View the map below to see our testing results.

Lead Lookup Map

Vallecitos Water District's Lead Lookup Map provides information about both the utility-side and private-side material of your water service line. Simply enter the address you want to look up, and the map will show you the material of your service line. If your address has been tested, it will appear on the map. This information is based on the best-available data the district has at this time as all addresses have not been tested. Vallecitos continually updates its service line data based on current information and records it receives. If you have questions about our findings, please contact us at (760) 744-0460.
