 The Job

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I/II daily monitors plant operations, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with environmental and public health standards, including chemical dosage & pumping rates; assists in reviewing and analyzing control system data and corrects system problems as permitted.  The position operates pumps, valves, chlorinators, instrumentation, odor control system, emergency power generator and other equipment to regulate wastewater flow through primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes.  Both position levels perform laboratory procedures as appropriate, and to the standards of an Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program certification.

Requirements 

Qualifications include graduation from 12th grade or equivalent, and possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Class C driver’s license; wastewater education is desirable. 

The I level must have 12 months’ experience operating pumps, motors, valves, and other instrumentation OR 6 education points as defined by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).  The I level must have successfully passed the SWRCB test to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I certificate.  

The II level must have 12 months’ experience as an operator with a wastewater treatment plant, and a SWRCB Wastewater Plant Operator Grade II certificate.  An SWRCB Laboratory Analyst Grade I is desirable

Because all public employees are automatically considered disaster service workers, District employees must sign the oath or affirmation on their first day of work.
